March 31, 2016

SINGAPORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704), a global leader in security software and solutions, today announced the sponsorship of the INTERPOL Digital Security Challenge 2016, a four-day event at the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Singapore. It serves as a forum for cybercrime investigators, digital forensic experts and other stakeholders to interact and compete to solve cybercrime scenarios by collecting evidence and identifying perpetrators. The sponsorship is part of a three-year agreement to support INTERPOL and its member countries with knowledge, resources and strategies to fight global cybercrime.

“Trend Micro has always been committed to public/private partnerships to fight a common adversary - those that use technology to do harm,” said Eva Chen, CEO, Trend Micro. “Combined with our overall corporate mission to make the world safe for exchanging digital information, we are doing all that we can to support law enforcement so this goal can be accomplished. The training and competition further prepares these agencies to effectively combat cybercrime, and we are proud to sponsor the event as a part of a multi-national team.”

During the event, Trend Micro senior threat researcher Ryan Flores presented his investigation techniques for business e-mail compromise (BEC) scams as context for the competition’s scenario. His session focused on best practices for analyzing BEC scams, complete with real-world examples to highlight the sophisticated tools necessary to execute these attacks.

Trend Micro provides threat information analysis through its Threat Intelligence Service to help investigate, deter and prevent cybercrimes. A cybercrime training program is also offered to help improve investigation techniques and capabilities of member countries. In addition, a Trend Micro security researcher is embedded at the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation in Singapore to support these initiatives.

The INTERPOL Digital Security Challenge 2016 is the organization’s first event to present a complex cybercrime scenario to provide law enforcement professionals from member countries an opportunity to work in a friendly, team environment to learn the latest trends in cybercrime and response techniques.
