Partnership supports victims of ransomware with decryption tools

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704TSE: 4704), a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, today announced its partnership with the No More Ransom (NMR) project to aid in the fight against ransomware. Trend Micro joins as an associated partner, providing ransomware decryption tools to assist victims.

“While protecting customers is a top priority, our mission at Trend Micro is to make the world a safer place for anyone to use the internet,” said Rik Ferguson, vice president of security research for Trend Micro. “We believe in the power of public-private partnerships in fighting against our common adversary. Projects like NMR are ideal ways for the security community to come together to protect and educate users about this harmful and growing threat.”

Trend Micro partners with public and private organizations, including Europol, to combine knowledge, time and resources in the global fight against cybercrime. Such partnerships allow Trend Micro to share threat intelligence with law enforcement to identify and takedown malicious attackers, as well as educate users and provide tools to keep consumers and enterprises secure.

Public/Private partnerships are a key element in the fight to stop the effectiveness of ransomware used to deprive and steal from victims. Bringing together strong cybersecurity organizations from around the world allows the project to provide educational information for users to protect themselves against ransomware, as well as tools, like those from Trend Micro, to decrypt files after a device is infected.

NMR consists of more than 30 partners from both the public and private sectors. These partners share threat intelligence and tools, and assist law enforcement to collectively support victims and bring those responsible for ransomware attacks to justice. The project strives to not only help people recover from ransomware attacks, but also educate users to avoid becoming infected. So far, nearly 6,000 victims have successfully decrypted their devices with the assistance of NMR.
