Trend Micro Supports HITRUST in Recent Department of Homeland Security Hearing

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704TSE: 4704), a global leader in cybersecurity solutions, supports the involvement of HITRUST and its chief executive officer Daniel Nutkis in elevating the healthcare industry’s cyber awareness, improving cyber preparedness and strengthening the risk management posture of healthcare organizations. As a key technology partner of HITRUST’s Enhanced Indicator of Compromise (IOC) program, Trend Micro believes Nutkis’ testimony to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will help reinforce the strong need for government and healthcare organizations to continue to deploy advanced threat detection capabilities and build a functioning, transparent process of sharing cyber threat information to mitigate risk for the entire industry.

“One of Trend Micro’s core beliefs is that we must work together to reduce the global cyber risk posed by advanced threat actors and their daily attacks,” said Ed Cabrera, chief cybersecurity officer for Trend Micro. “In 2016 alone, we blocked more than a billion ransomware attacks and detected 247 new ransomware families representing a 752 percent increase from 2015. The scale and speed of these and other cyber attacks can only be matched through robust public-private partnerships.”

The purpose of this hearing, “The Current State of DHS Private Sector Engagement for Cybersecurity” is to give private sector stakeholders the opportunity to explain the value and effectiveness of current engagement with the DHS. Private sector engagement is crucial to the DHS mission of enhancing the security, resilience and reliability of the nation’s cyber and communications infrastructure. This hearing will allow for a discussion of DHS private sector engagement and programs to identify what makes particular outreach efforts and products of value to participating entities.

“Trend Micro is an active member of DHS’s Cyber Information Sharing and Collaboration Program (CISCP),” said Cabrera. “The exchange of cybersecurity information with the DHS and other government agencies is important because it allows us to work together as a security industry community including members from both private industries and the government.”

Trend Micro and HITRUST have a longstanding partnership. Trend Micro has provided the cybersecurity solution used in meeting HITRUST’s enhanced IOC requirements to detect advanced cyber attacks and convey quality threat information at a rapid pace so other healthcare organizations can swiftly act upon it. In addition, Trend Micro is also the first security provider to meet the requirements of HITRUST’s CyberAid program. This innovative program provides an effective and affordable cyber defense solution to smaller healthcare organizations with less than 75 employees that have historically faced challenges in adequately protecting themselves from cyber attacks, viruses, malware and threat actors while exchanging IOCs with the HITRUST CTX.

“Our Enhanced IOC program demonstrates that healthcare organizations are able to greatly improve the accuracy and timeliness of cyber threat detection while engaging more effectively in cyber threat information sharing,” said Daniel Nutkis, chief executive officer for HITRUST. “Trend Micro’s Deep Discovery Appliance has been integral in aiding organizations in meeting the Enhance IOC program requirements and improving their own cyber detection programs.”
