Toronto, October 18th, 2021 – Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704), the global leader in cloud security, today announced the launch of its Trend Micro Cloud One regional data center service hosted in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Canada (Central) Region, to uphold data residency, safeguard data privacy and reduce business risk for Canadian organizations.
Owing to the agility that cloud brings, organizations are increasingly embracing it, making SaaS the preferred model for security solutions delivery. However, many customers face regulatory or policy-based concerns around the location of SaaS platforms or data storage for their workloads. Having a cloud data center within the country improves compliance and reduces friction for guidance and reporting requirements.
Trend Micro Cloud One is the company’s flagship cloud security services platform for protecting servers, resources, and applications in the cloud. The general availability announcement of the data center service in AWS Canada is part of Trend Micro’s commitment to supporting the business priorities of their customers.
Trend Micro chooses October as the launch date to raise awareness for Cybersecurity Awareness Month. “Themes like data sovereignty and the shared responsibility model are key to addressing security in the cloud and should be discussed constantly by security, compliance and business leaders”, said Adam Boyle, VP of Hybrid Cloud Security for Trend Micro.
Speaking on the launch, Marcia Sequeira, Country Manager for Trend Micro Canada said, “We’re thrilled about it! This is one of many investments done over the years to reinforce our commitment towards our customers in Canada. In 2017, Trend Micro acquired Montréal-based Immunio’s App Protection technology to build what is known today as Trend Micro Cloud One Application Security. The Trend Micro Cloud One AWS data center service will help simplify cloud security for our vast clientele – especially in BFSI, government and other regulated sectors.”
The all-in-one platform approach provides automated protection, which will protect Trend Micro’s customers throughout their cloud journey. Data residency and sovereignty concerns are no longer a roadblock for enterprises to leverage the company’s market-leading platform.
“Services processing personal information in the cloud should be built to respect regional differences in privacy laws and it’s great to know Trend Micro is concerned about that, and it’s not just a matter of compliance - storing and processing data in Canada is important, especially for the public sector, because it allows us to mitigate business risk while offering benefits to our users and customers, like faster data processing time”, says Andrey Chernousov, Associate Director, Information Security, Vancouver Community College.
“Customers want cloud solutions and services that meet Canada’s Data Residency Laws. We look forward to growing our strategic collaboration with Trend Micro”, said Maria Ellis, Public Sector Partner Lead, AWS Canada. Trend Micro is an Advanced Technology Partner in the AWS Partner Network (APN) and has been an APN Partner since 2012. The company is also an AWS Security Competency Partner.
