Ransomware attacks will become more targeted in 2022, according to researchers at Trend Micro, focusing on servers and cloud providers. Trend Micro annual predictions report highlighted ransomware operators will use increasingly complex extortion methods, such as exfiltrating data in order to weaponize it.

With the digital world quickly evolving around society, cybersecurity risks are more present than ever before. Greater still are the risks that Information Technology decision makers take when they are uncertain or uncomfortable enough to raise these concerns with executive level board members. According to Antoine Saikaley, Canadian technical director for Trend Micro it is essential that all business leaders are keeping cybersecurity risks top of mind.

Myla Pilao, senior director for research at Trend Micro Research, discusses what she sees as cybersecurity threats to look out for in the new year. Pilao says the digital transformation has accelerated this past year and as such, needs a security transformation to follow in order to keep up with changing threats. She notes that small and medium businesses need to understand that they too are vulnerable to threats and need to prioritize security.

As many people try to finish their online shopping in time for the holidays, experts and consumers are warning that scammers are looking for new ways to steal their money.
